The oversized denim jacket. YES. We are loving it. The 90’s are back and we all have to accept it eventually. Denim goes with (almost) everything, so why not rock it!

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Hope you are enjoying a special day, whether with your true love or your best gal pals!

New York Fashion Week is in full swing right now! One of our favorite shows so far has been Marissa Webb with her signature menswear inspired pieces. Interesting color combinations such as mustard and mauve make this collection unique, while classic black, white, and grey looks pop visually on the runway. The contrast of tougher masculine elements mixed with feminine touches creates a style that we can get on board with. From leather pieces to lacy overlays Marissa Webb’s Fall ’16 collection is one to look forward to!

New York Fashion Week: Day 4

Welcome to fashion week day four! We’ve been keeping up via live stream with Rebecca Minkoff and Alexander Wang, both of whom released their collections today in New York.

Minkoff’s show featured live music from singer Zella Day. Unlike a lot of other shows that will be happening this week, all of Minkoff’s pieces looked ready to wear straight off the runway. Minkoff focused on simplicity and created pieces using nice white and cream fabrics like velvet and chiffon. The collection also came with a lot of simple patterned dresses, fringed jackets, and simple handbags with fringed tassels to give them that extra element of style.

Wang, however, went for a grunge revival look, but with added pastels and patterns. Wang’s collection included lots of asymmetrical patterns, chain jewelry, distressed and frayed denim, and a variety of different fabrics including leather and fuzz. Wang featured a lot of graphics in his pieces, many including the word ‘tender’, ‘strict’, or ‘girls’. A few pieces also had patterns of a woman pole dancing. Compared to Minkoff’s collection, Wang was a lot more liberal with his ideas. He kept his looks edgy yet chic, and even pushed the obscene boundary a bit.

Both collections are very different yet fashionable. The Elly Clay blog will keep you updated on everything fashion week, but if you would like to tune in to some of the live streams of shows, click here.

Top Couture Week Looks

Giorgio Armani Prive Paris Haute Couture Spring/ Summer 2016. January 2016

Couture Week in Paris has come to a close, with many glimpses inside the exclusive PFW events posted all over our favorite social media sites. While the stunning gowns shown on the couture runway may not be realistically wearable for most of us, they can provide inspiration for trendy elements to bring into our everyday wardrobes. The dreamy purples of the Armani Prive collection bring to mind the pastel palette of the Pantone colors of the year (Serenity and Rose Quartz) and is a shade that can easily be incorporated into ready to wear. These pastel shades as well as sparkles, ruffles, florals, and lace are seen in the Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad, and Ralph and Russo shows as well. It sure seems like pastels are making a big comeback this spring!  And, if anybody has any galas or balls to attend, wouldn’t one of these dresses be a showstopper?

London Fashion Week 2015

Oh, our wonderful readers, we are just jumping out of our chairs with excitement this month! As you may be aware, September is the month of fashion weeks around the world and this week London is the location of choice. Designers such as Simon Rocha, Mary Katrantzou, and Alexander Lewis have brought an outstanding, fashionable, selection to the historic city. Designers have truly outdone themselves this year and fashion critiques are calling many pieces, “the best of the best.”

Bringing classical ambiance into the 21st century, Burberry incorporated their full length, short, crocheted, and patterned  dresses onto the runway. The line consisted of both structured and draped hems and silhouettes but did not engulf the models who wore them. Burberry, keeping their color patterns classic and simplistic, magnified the decadance of the collection by incorporating intensified details such as cutouts and lace.

Later in the week, Ryan Lo displayed his ruffles and frills within a variety of contemporary and abstract designs. The colors varried but the ones said to stand out the most were the baby pink and lilac hues. Atop the variations of dresses and loose pant suits, many of the models attracted attention with the spectacular capes, which floated down the runway.

Blue should stay in two things, fashion and the sea! That’s exactly what occurred this week as many of the models exhibited blue eye make up. A never ending pallet of the color bolded the beauty of the model’s intricate faces. Many of the sapphires and skies were pigments by MAC and were featured in shows such as Jonathan Saunders and Mary Katranzou and Ashley Williams. The eye looks were enhanced by pale pink lips and finished off with bold brows.

The week has been a spectacle of complex and flawlessly twisted designs. Yet again, the fashion industry has boomed within it’s own magnificence. Comprised of some of the top designers and models, London Fashion Week 2015 is nothing less than a success. Let us know how you were inspired by anything and everything that took the runway and get ready for Paris Fashion Week!!

xoxo,

G
